As we previously reported, the backstage feeling in WWE is that the company gave Heath Slater time off to deal with his legal issues stemming from a 2011 assault incident.

Big Update on the WWE Returns of Randy Orton and Rey Mysterio

As of now, the current plan in WWE is for Randy Orton to return to the ring at the January 17th live event in Abilene, Texas.

Orton likely had his nasal surgery sometime this past week, and the surgery was timed so that Orton could be back in time for the Royal Rumble PPV.

As noted, Tweets from both Rey Mysterio and Chavo Guerrero have lead to speculation that Mysterio has been granted his released from WWE, and the latest word is the WWE creative team has been told not to worry about coming up with anything for Mysterio. As of now, there are no plans to bring Mysterio back to TV anytime soon.
