Update On Jushin Liger At NXT Takeover; How It May Affect The ROH/NJPW Relationship

hideo itamiAs reported last week, legendary Japanese wrestler Jushin “Thunder” Liger of New Japan Pro Wrestling would be appearing at the NXT Takeover live special at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

We noted this booking was creating a bit of controversy due to the working relationship between Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling; the Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting this conflict puts ROH in a bad position.

One of the ways ROH could acquire talent and keep them was their relationship with NJPW, as well as having access to talent exchanges and sending ROH stars over for spots on major NJPW match cards. The NJPW/ROH is a very lucrative one for ROH, and makes it a little more legitimate promotion, but with WWE stepping in the relationship could be strained.

The report states most people or companies would end the relationship, but if it were to happen ROH won’t do so until after the Brooklyn Field of Honor show. ROH is running their show, featuring IWGP champion Kazuchika Okada, Junior heavyweight champion Kushida, as well as Shinsuke Nakamura and other big names, and has to compete with WWE’s NXT Takeover show, featuring Liger, who will face Tyler Breeze.
