How Is ESPN Covering WWE Summerslam; Are They Helping With Media Exposure For WWE?

The decision to take the WWE Summerslam pay-per-view out of Los Angeles and move it to Brooklyn is paying off, giving the impression professional wrestling is on the rise again. Despite low ratings and live attendance falling, news of the high numbers and three straight sellouts at the Barclays Center is attracting attention from major sponsors.

ESPN bringing coverage to WWE is certainly helping, as Brock Lesnar was in studio this week, and former WWE announcer / current ESPN anchor Jonathan Coachman will be in Brooklyn covering the event. ESPN won’t be covering it in a large scale like a lot of the other events they do, but just being at Summerslam this week will probably lead to future coverage of events like Wrestlemania or more Summerslams. It was noted that eventhough it helps WWE, some may see it as a controversial decision since ESPN would be “approving” pro wrestling on their network, as some knock it’s legitimacy.
