In this final Gookerthon post we take a look at some of Hector’s comments about the Undertaker and debuting on the same show as him twenty-five years ago at Survivor Series 1990.

You can find some of his transcribed quotes and listen to the full interview in the embedded player below: On whether there is any truth to the rumor that the Undertaker was supposed to debut as the Gobbledy Gooker at Survivor Series 1990:

HG: No, not at all. Not that I know of. When they flew me up to accept this deal and cement it I started seeing the people that were going to make the outfit for me and this and that. They actually did it to my body. When they did all that I got picked up by the same limo that picked up the Undertaker, Mark. They picked up Mark and I and I had known him from back in the WCW days. When I got picked up at the same time he did we talked and then they dropped me off at one place and then he went to another place. I think his deal was completely different. He was going to be the Undertaker and they were going to do that with him. The Gobbledy Gooker, that was me. How can you put that beautiful big guy… he’s very tall and very strong… how can you put Mark in the turkey outfit? No, you don’t. Somebody who was the high flier like I was in my time. I wasn’t very tall. I’m only 5’10” and a half. He’s over six feet tall. I don’t know how tall he is. 6’3″? 6’4″? I don’t know, he’s a pretty tall guy. Very, very charismatic individual. I always respected him. I still respect him for what his abilities in the ring are. At that time he used to do stuff off the ropes that I used to love to see him do. Not too many big guys could do that. Him and Bam Bam Bigelow I have a lot of respect for.

On whether he thought that the Undertaker would become the legendary character it has become:

HG: No, listen to me. I didn’t know too much about the Undertaker gimmick. My deal was that when I went in there I was centered on the things that I was doing for the Gobbledy Gooker. They kept me around people that were taking care of that gimmick and to develop it. When I went to do it there was a group that was assigned to it and that’s who I conversed with. That’s who took care of everything. The Undertaker thing was a different thing. As far as me knowing about it? Only what I saw when it started off. It is what it started off as that night. That’s a mutual respect you have. Whatever gimmick you are and whatever you are doing you respect the other person and what he is doing. You respect what the office is doing. They have control and they want control. They want you to have secrecy and respect and all of that. I really was more centered on what I had to do as the Gobbledy Gooker.
