Just finished the NXT house show in Green Bay, WI at Shopko Hall. The larger building has an arena and a gym area; this show was in the gym with folding chairs around the ring. Overall there were about 1200 people in attendance with no empty chairs.

1. Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady vs. Dash and Dawson – NXT Tag Team Title match

Fun, formula tag match that got the crowd going. The champions retained the titles when Wilder pinned Enzo with a cradle while his feet were on the ropes. Enzo and Cass were over huge.

2. Bull Dempsey vs. Elias “The Drifter” Sampson

A comedy match, as Bull endeared himself to the crowd by wearing a Packers cheesehead hat and they did some gags with it. Sampson was obsessing over his guitar, even talking to it at one point. The Drifter pinned Bull after his new swinging neckbreaker finisher.

3. Tommaso Ciampa vs. Tye Dillinger

Crowd was pretty split on their reactions, as Ciampa is billed as a Wisconsin native but Dillinger’s “10” chant is over. Dillinger played the heel and carried a laminated “10” on paper which Ciampa stomped at one point. Funny stuff. Very stiff match from both with some LOUD chops before Dillinger got the win with a knee to the face takedown finish, not unlike Gail Kim’s Eat Defeat.

4. Bayley vs. Alexa Bliss for the NXT Women’s Title

Bayley had her inflatable wind socks for her entrance and embraced basically everyone in the front row. She’s a great ambassador for the brand. She even hugged the ref twice at the crowd’s urging. Bliss played the annoyed heel quite well. Quick back and forth match with Bliss working the arm before Bayley made the comeback and got the Bayley-to-belly after a mat wrestling sequence for the win.

Intermission, then

5. Apollo Crews vs. Baron Corbin

Corbin got a surprising amount of love from the crowd, but it felt ironic and snarky. Match started slow with Corbin stalling to get heat, but picked up a lot at the end. Crews had the spot of the night with a rebounding moonsault off the ring apron to the floor. Good power match ended when Crews hit the standing moonsault twice to get the pin. Great post-break match to perk up the crowd again.

6. Carmella and Peyton Royce vs. Eva Marie and Nia Jax

Eva Marie had her usual nuclear heat, and it actually detracted from the other wrestlers, especially Jax, who got little reaction. Crowd didn’t really know Royce, and personally I don’t think her gimmick works as a babyface. In any case, a rather one-sided match saw Jax pin Royce after a leg drop.

7. Finn Balor vs. Sami Zayn for the NXT title

Awesome main event. These two can really go, and have great chemistry. Interesting because Balor is way over but Zayn is so good at drawing sympathy that Balor became a de facto heel and played to it. After being strongly in favor of Balor early on, crowd was rooting harder for Sami by the end. Nonetheless, Balor got the pin after cutting off Sami’s finishing sequence and going into his own–the corner dropkick followed by the Coup de Grace. Match of the night, garnering a “Both these guys” chant. They got 15 or 20 minutes: I’d love to see them get 30 on a Takeover special. Oh, and Bullet Club is already a huge thing and Balor’s friends haven’t even arrived yet. Look out.

Biggest pops:

Balor/Sami

Bayley

Enzo and Cass

Most heat:

Eva Marie

Corbin

Sampson (especially when he kicked the cheesehead hat)
