Latest on Returning Names for WWE Brand Split

Last month Forbes reported that WWE had reached out to a number of ex-WWE stars about a return to the company to fill out a roster that’s going to be thinned with the Raw and Smackdown brand split.

Kurt Angle and Goldberg were both names on that list, but they have since said there have been no such talks. Goldberg says his WWE involvement is with his 2K17 video game appearance only, and Angle explained he hasn’t had any conversations with WWE since the brand split was announced, but his return to the company is a ‘when and not if’ situation.

Now The Wrestling Observer has ruled out two more names from that list, reporting that although numerous former top stars have been contacted, Jeff Hardy and Rey Mysterio have not been approached.

Instead, WWE is said to be aggressively pursuing indy talents, specifically those from Lucha Underground who are contractually able to leave the company. A big buzzword backstage in WWE right now is reportedly “coachable”, presumably meaning they want to be able to mould talent in their own style.
