Mercedes Martinez On ROH Title Match Against Serena Deeb: We’re Going To Kill It, It’ll Be A Banger

Mercedes Martinez has encountered an impressive number of names in her career.

Now, she goes one-on-one with “The Professor of Professional Wrestling”, Serena Deeb. At Ring of Honor Death Before Dishonor, Mercedes Martinez will defend her ROH Women’s World Championship against Serena Deeb. The two opponents have clashed the last few weeks on AEW programming in anticipation of this match. From tag teaming together, to Mercedes stopping a post-match assault from Deeb. Combined, Martinez and Deeb have over 35 years of in-ring experience as well.

Recently speaking with Steve Fall of NBC Sports Boston, Martinez expressed her thoughts on if their title bout could be the match of the year.

“Why not? Why not? I mean, you’re looking at two of the best women wrestlers out there right now in this industry. We have the experience, we’ve been everywhere, we’ve done it all. We’ve had our struggles, we sacrificed a lot for what we have to do, to where we are now,” Martinez explained. “And with Ring of Honor, it’s a full circle. It’s almost like ‘hey, we’ve been here before, but there was no women’s division’. We have a chance to propel this women’s division to go forward for the future of Ring of Honor, and the future of what can this division bring to also AEW.”

“Because if you look at it, you have to look at AEW and Ring of Honor, we have to be able to mix the talents,” she continued. “So those that may not be able to get the opportunity in AEW for whatever reason because of storylines or whatnot, this is a chance for them to get into Ring of Honor and actually showcase their skills and their talents. It’s a different platform. So we’re just here to build, and we’re here to capitalize.”

Martinez stated that she and Deeb will aim to deliver a banger, and they want to show the world that the buzz surrounding women’s wrestling is here to stay.

“Me and Serena are gonna go in there, we’re gonna kill it, we’re gonna throw out a banger, we’re gonna throw out something that no one’s ever seen before, that they haven’t seen on mainstream, and just prove to everyone that women’s wrestling is here to stay, and just let us roll with it, let us just take the ball and bring the opportunities and bring everything to what it can be. Women’s wrestling is on a high right now, and I’m just glad to help lead the charge.”

Ring of Honor Death Before Dishonor airs this Saturday, July 23rd at 8pm est on FITE TV.
