AEW Collision Results:
TNT Champion Dustin Rhodes is out first to kick off the show. The newly crowned champion gives a rousing and emotional speech about what it takes to persevere. He says that his motto throughout life has always been to “keep stepping.” When he’s knocked down, he keeps stepping, and it’s led him here.
For the first time, Rhodes can proudly say he is the face of TNT. He thanked the crowd and his parents, but the Don Callis Family interrupted any further celebrations. Callis is joined by Kyle Fletcher, who takes the mic from Don. Fletcher said Rhodes’ story is touching, but a “gigantic load of crap.”
Fletcher said this was supposed to be his celebration, but that Rhodes “weasled” his way into a title match. The star then said he will now not rest until he’s taken “everything” from Rhodes. As far as Fletcher is concerned, the TNT title still belongs to him. Rhodes said he still respects Fletcher, but Rhodes is no stranger to failure.
The reigning champ says all Fletcher does is complain, and pointed out how he managed to work three times as much as Fletcher did last weekend. He said he managed to “pull it off” when Fletcher couldn’t. Callis took to the mic to defuse the situation, praising Rhodes for his illustrious career. However, Callis said Rhodes is still chasing the high of winning a title, and asks him what will happen when Fletcher inevitably beats him for it.
Callis then said he will hold a place in The Don Callis Family for Rhodes when that happens. Because, Callis said, being in his family is better than being the “third wheel” in his own family. This set Rhodes off, and he pushed Callis, which led to a brawl between Fletcher and Rhodes, ending in Rhodes sending Fletcher over the ropes.
Ricochet vs. AR Fox
- This was an extremely high-flying match, but Ricochet eventually hit a Spirit Gun on Fox to walk out the winner. After the match, The Gates of Agony cleared Fox from the ring and held up Ricochet to celebrate the win.
Winner: Ricochet
Grade: A-
This was a fun one! Not a whole lot on the line and it seemed clear from the start that Ricochet would find a way to win. But both stars still put on a great show, and the end was filled with some awesome move reversals.
The Death Riders send a message
Before the next match can even take place, chaos broke out. The AEW commentary team were discussing All In’s match between “Hangman” Page and Jon Moxley, when the Riders appeared and ambushed Colt Cabana. The group went to work on Cabana, forcing him to bleed before throwing him into the ring.
In the ring, Marina Shafir grabbed a chain and wrapped it around Cabana’s neck. Moxley then threw Cabana over the ring, recreating what Page did to him at All In. After choking Cabana for a bit, Moxley dropped him and the group exited.
Megan Bayne vs. Tay Melo
- With no one allowed at ringside for this one, both stars went all in on each other. Melo looked ready to walk out with a win after three big running kicks. However, Bayne responded well. Melo locked in a Guillotine that Bayne reversed into a suplex for a near fall. In the end, Bayne picked up the win by hitting a running tiger bomb.
Winner: Megan Bayne
Grade: B+
This one was a lot of fun without anyone at ringside to cause any interference. Melo and Bayne were trading some big moves, and the end really seemed like it could go either way. Hopefully this is just the beginning for the pair’s future matches.
Taya Valkyrie vs. Alex Windsor
- Windsor wins this one in stunning fashion! She forced Taya Valkyrie to tap out.
Winner: Alex Windsor
After the match, Athena interrupted, and said Windsor have to wait her turn for title shots, then proceeded to mock Toni Storm for a bit. Storm made her way down to the ring, demanding Athena sign her contract and the two fight now. Athena promptly declined, leaidng to Storm chasing up after Athena, but Athena ran off.
Grade: A-
Love a good segment featuring some of the best in AEW. Windsor notching her first win was awwsome, and the build up to Athena and Storm continues to be done very well. Excited to see those two get into the ring.
Billy Gunn and Anthony Bowens Meet
Backstage, Bowens said he hadn’t talked to Gunn yet when Billy showed up. The two argued about not being on the same page. Billy said Bowens is way too obsessed about Max Caster, while Bowens said Gunn is acting like an absentee father. Gunn said he’s got a good thing to help Bowens out of his slump planned for AEW Dynamite. The segment ended up with the pair agreeing to get on the same page.
$200K 4-Way Tag Team Match: Gates of Agony (Bishop Kaun and Toa Liona) vs. Austin & Colten Gunn vs. CRU (Lio Rush & Action Andretti) vs. Big Bill & Keith Lee
- In perhaps unsurprising news, The Gates of Agony walked out with the win and the extra $200,000. They won after a brawl broke out between all four teams, leading to Ricochet getting involved. He pulled Austin Gunn out of the ring to stop a win, and the Gates of Agony hit a double powerbomb on Andretti for the win.
Winner: The Gates of Agony
Grade: B
All things considered, it was a fun match. A bit too chaotic at times, but The Gates of Agony continuing to win is a good bit to build up as ultimate bad guys. The celebrations they all have in the ring after are just hilarious, too.
Max Caster’s Open Challenge Has Arrived
It’s time for yet another open challenge from Max. After coming to the ring to talk to his talk, Caster leads the crowd in another rendition of how great he is. Kyle O’Reilly is the one to challenge Caster this time after his music hits.
Max Caster vs. Kyle O’Reilly
- This match is mostly spent with Caster running around the ring begging O’Reilly to stop trying to fight him. O’Reilly doesn’t, and promptly wins within two-and-a-half minutes.
Winner: Kyle O’Reilly
Grade: B-
The Max Caster Open Challenge stuff is funny from time to time, and tonight was one of the times where it just worked. Caster screaming at Kyle as they ran around the ring was a good time.
Big Bill and Juice Robinson Brawl
Backstage, Juice Robinson lamented the loss of the $200,000 tag team match. He blames Ricochet for costing the Bang Bang Gang money. Before he could finish calling out Ricochet, though, Big Bill appears and blames Juice for sticking his nose in his own business.
The pair began to brawl, throwing each other into lockers before AEW officials came in to break it up. The pair continued to scream at each other as we get underway with our next match…
RUSH vs. Katsuyori Shibata
- Rush picks up the win here, thanks in part to some help. Dralistico and Mortos showed up to distract Shibata and the ref late, letting Rush get some extra help.
Winner: RUSH
After the win, Dralistico and Mortos get in the ring and go after Shibata, with Rush taking Shibata’s trios title to pose with afterward. Powerhouse Hobbs then comes down to the ring, and clears everyone out with a chair to help his partner.
Grade: C+
The match itself was fine enough. The interference seemed strange as it didn’t cause any sort of DQ, but it was still a good match.
Time For The All-Star 8-Man Main Event
All Star 8-Man Tag Team Match: Bandido, Máscara Dorada & JetSpeed (Kevin Knight and “Speedball” Mike Bailey) vs. Don Callis Family’s Hechicero, Lance Archer, Rocky Romero & Josh Alexander
- It’s a chaotic match, but JetSpeed, Bandnio, and Máscara Dorada end up winning this one. Bandido won the match for his group with a 21plex on Rocky Romero. After that, it was followed up by Dorada hitting a shooting star press to cement the win.
Winner: Bandido, Máscara Dorada & JetSpeed
Grade: B+
This was a fun match, albeit one that felt a bit too hectic at times. Everyone involved was incredible to watch, though, so it’s hard to complain when you get a match like this on AEW Collision.
AEW Collision Review:
All in all, this was a pretty solid show. We got some great development for future feuds, a few awesome matches, and a look ahead to a big Wednesday night. Following All In, it seems like AEW is making sure to keep the big nights coming.
