AEW Dynamite Fright Night Results:

Tonight’s episode of Dynamite kicks off with the Trick or Treat tornado tag match.

Orange Cassidy and Darby Allin vs. Wheeler Yuta and Daniel Garcia

  • The finish of the match saw Darby Allin lock Wheeler Yuta in the Scorpion Death Lock to win the match for his team via submission.

Winners: Darby Allin and Orange Cassidy

Grade: A-

I love it when Dynamite begins with a little bit of chaos, and this match certainly delivered that in spades. A very fun match that should hopefully set the tone for the rest of the evening. Great stuff from these four men!

HOOK knows he’s the underdog tonight

HOOK arrives at the building backstage and hypes up tonight’s four-way to determine the number one contender for the AEW World Championship. The Cold Hearted Handsome Devil says he knows that he’s the underdog going into tonight’s match, but that’s not going to stop him from doing everything he can to leave tonight with a victory. HOOK made it clear he also intends to make sure that Samoa Joe doesn’t win tonight, as he recently showed the world his true colors, but he knew the real Joe all along.

Will the Young Bucks join the Don Callis Family?

Renee Paquette is backstage with Don Callis. Callis says he’s going to show everyone tonight that the Don Callis Family has never been stronger. Callis calls over the Young Bucks and tells them it’s criminal what this company has done to them, and suggests it would be helpful for them to have a family to have their back. Don tells the truck to run the Young Bucks’ real entrance tonight, and it happens, complete with Callis doing their ring introduction.

AEW World Tag Team Championship #1 Contenders Match: FTR (w/ Big Stoke) vs. Young Bucks vs. JetSpeed vs. Jurassic Express

  • The finish of the match saw FTR hit Kevin Knight with the Shatter Machine to score the pinfall victory.

Winners: FTR

FTR will now move on to Full Gear to challenge Brodido for the AEW World Tag Team Titles.

Grade: A

Freaking awesome! Four of my favorite tag teams going at it for a shot at the titles. I kinda figured this was FTR’s match to win based on the Young Bucks’ current storyline and Brodido being babyface champions, so the results weren’t too surprising. I feel we might see a title change at Full Gear to set up the return of Adam Copeland and Christian Cage, who will believe they have earned a shot at the titles after beating FTR at All Out. We’ll find out soon enough!

We get a video package recapping Hangman Page’s promo against Samoa Joe from Collision.

Can the Don Callis Family get on the same page?

The Don Callis Family makes their way to the ring for their “summit.” Everyone is present except Konosuke Takeshita. Don Callis welcomes everyone to the summit and says there has been speculation about problems in the family between Okada and Takeshita, and he is here to dispel them.

Rocky Romero says the Don Callis Family is the largest and most dominant faction in wrestling today. Romero says Takeshita couldn’t be here due to travel issues, but he can be here in spirit, introducing a new piece of art likely done by the legendary Mel Coleman.

Josh Alexander says he wants to show everyone what the Don Callis Family is all about and directs us to a video package hyping the group up. This brings us to Kyle Fletcher, who wants to remind everyone why the Don Callis Family does what they do. Fletcher reveals the oath that each member of the Don Callis Family takes before officially being added to the group. He is interrupted by Konosuke Takeshita, who apparently didn’t have travel issues after all.

Konosuke Takeshita is here, and he doesn’t look happy

Takeshita and Okada go face-to-face as Callis tries to calm things down. Callis says he named Takeshita the Alpha, but now this is an entire family of alphas. Callis says with an entire family of alphas, this kind of thing is to be expected. Don says the family can only succeed by listening to what he wants. Callis says there is no “I” in team, but there is an “I” in family, and he decides what happens here.

Don Callis says he and Takeshita built this family on the ashes of Kenny Omega and warns him that while he might be the first in, he can also be the first out. Callis asks Takeshita to put his ego aside and shake Okada’s hand. The crowd is very vocal, telling Takeshita not to do it, and Callis tells them not to listen to them, as this is about honor, and asks him to shake his hand again.

Takeshita goes to offer the handshake, and Okada flips him off instead. The family rushes in to separate the two. Callis says the two of them will team up this Saturday on Collision to prove that they can work as a family.

Kris Statlander calls out the CEO

AEW Women’s World Champion Kris Statlander is backstage with Renee Paquette. Statlander says she will be at Collision on Saturday to see Mercedes defend the CMLL Women’s Championship against Olympia. However, Stat knows Mercedes is in the building tonight and dares her to come find her tonight, telling her she’s not hard the find as she’s the person holding the title she doesn’t have.

Kyle O’Reilly vs. Jon Moxley (w/ Marina Shafir)

  • The finish of the match saw Kyle O’Reilly have Jon Moxley in a guillotine choke on the outside, and they both got counted out by Aubrey Edwards.

Winner: Double countout

After the match, the Death Riders attack Kyle O’Reilly until the Conglomeration and Darby Allin hit the ring and make the Death Riders escape through the crowd. They challenge the Death Riders to Blood and Guts in two weeks.

Grade: B+

Okay, this match was damn good. I thought for sure this was going to be used as a vehicle to give Jon Moxley his win back against Kyle O’Reilly, but they went another way, which I really appreciate. I fear this will eventually lead to Moxley getting his win over O’Reilly, but I would prefer that didn’t happen. We’ll see what Blood and Guts brings us in two weeks.

Mercedes Moné has some backup

We go backstage to see Mercedes Moné and Kris Statlander brawling. Moné gets the upper hand and drags Statlander out into the arena. Before she can get her to the ring, Statlander recovers and gets the upper hand until she’s attacked by Athena.

Moné and Athena hit the Backstabber and the O-Face on Statlander. This brings out Willow Nightingale and Harley Cameron, who chase off Moné and Athena. Cameron checks on Statlander while Nightingale dares Mercedes and Athena to come back and fight.

It’s announced that Penelope Ford is dealing with an injury and will likely miss both Blood and Guts and the Women’s Tag Team Title Tournament. On behalf of everyone here at WrestleZone, we wish Ford a quick and painless recovery.

AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship Tournament Match: Jamie Hayter and Queen Aminata vs. Julia Hart and Skye Blue

  • The finish of the match saw Thekla come out from under the ring to attack Jamie Hayter, allowing the Sisters of Sin to hit Queen Aminata with a double team maneuver. Skye Blue scores the pinfall victory for their team.

Winners: Skye Blue and Julia Hart

Grade: B+

This was a fun tag match. I was expecting Aminata and Hayter to lose after calling their shot like they did. Thekla being the deciding factor made sense, and this result really set the stage for the next round of this tournament. I expect Cameron and Nightingale to score a huge upset victory over Mercedes and Athena in the first round now.

Megan Bayne has a new partner

Tony Schiavone is backstage with Penelope Ford and Megan Bayne. Ford reveals that she tore her UCL and she’s out indefinitely. Megan Bayne isn’t being pulled from the tournament and asks any woman who feels they are worthy to step up, and she’ll decide if they are. This brings in Marina Shafir, and the women stare each other down as Jon Moxley looks on, very excited about this tag team’s potential.

AEW World Championship #1 Contenders Match: Bobby Lashley vs. Ricochet vs. Samoa Joe vs. HOOK

  • The finish of the match saw Ricochet hit Bobby Lashley with a chair to get his attention long enough for Samoa Joe to lock HOOK in the cocquina clutch to win the match via submission before Lashley was able to break it up.

Winner: Samoa Joe

Samoa Joe will now move on to Full Gear to challenge Hangman Page for the AEW World Championship, a rematch from this month’s WrestleDream pay-per-view.

Grade: A-

The Opps come to the ring to celebrate with Samoa Joe as Tony Schiavone joins them in the ring and announces that they will sign the contract for Full Gear right now. They bring out a lot of Halloween costumed characters, and Joe doesn’t trust it and has The Opps attack everyone in the suits. They think Hangman is once again in the Stay Puft suit, but it wasn’t him. Joe signs the contract and says Hangman Page’s days are numbered as he’s not as creative as he used to be. It’s then revealed that it’s Hangman Page dressed up as Schiavone who low blows Shibata and Hobbs before beating up Joe as AEW Dynamite goes off the air.

AEW Dynamite Fright Night Review:

This was a fantastic episode of AEW Dynamite tonight. From beginning to end, we got a lot of great matches that helped set the stage for Full Gear next month. Penelope Ford’s injury was the only real downer of the evening. Other than that, I don’t think there was a single moment on this show where I felt like this show wasn’t firing on all cylinders. However, I must nitpick and say that the closing segment took a bit too long to pull off, but it was a fun reveal. Overall, a damn good show from AEW tonight.
