Lei Ying Lee captured her first championship in TNA during WWE NXT: Gold Rush.
Lee defeated Kelani Jordan and Jordynne Grace in a triple threat match to become the new the TNA Knockouts World Champion. This week’s WWE NXT was taped last week at The Theater in Madison Square Garden following night one of Gold Rush.
The match as advertised saw nonstop action between all three stars. The turning point came when defending champion Kelani Jordan missed a 450 splash. Lee tried to take advantage of the moment, but Jordynne Grace threw her out of the ring.
Grace immediately hit her finisher Torture Rack transitioned into a sit-out powerbomb on Kelaani Jordan. Just as Grace went for the pin, Lee struck with a flying spin kick to the back of Grace’s head. She then quickly covered Jordan for the three-count, winning the match and bringing the Knockouts Championship back to TNA.
After the victory, TNA President Carlos Silva entered the ring to present the title personally. He placed the championship around Lei Ying Lee’s waist, officially beginning her reign as the new Knockouts World Champion.
This win marks Lee’s first title in TNA and her first major championship since her WWE run, when she was known as Xia Li. The title change also means all TNA championships are now held by TNA talent, ending a stretch where WWE NXT stars held several of the company’s belts.
