CM Punk may have inadvertently put himself in the same category as Hulk Hogan.
The World Heavyweight Champion appeared on the WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event Post-Show panel last weekend. Punk reflected on John Cena’s final year as an in-ring competitor, praising his legendary rival for his consistency.
“He was consistently John, and I mean that,” Punk said. “He did his best at the time with what he was given. This business is full of people who will argue and sometimes dumb themselves out of position. John has always taken whatever the task was, made it better, and knocked it out of the park. That is admirable.
Punk then referenced several major names who left WWE on a bitter note, inadvertently placing Hulk Hogan and himself in the same sentence before putting over Cena’s loyalty to the company.
“To watch him go off into the sunset with such class and dignity, to me, that is such a rare thing. Bruno had a falling out with Vince Sr. and Jr. Hogan had a falling out. I left. I had a falling out. Here is a guy who was consistently on top. He is a Boy Scout, he stayed true to that. He went out the same guy.”
CM Punk shares the best advice John Cena gave him
During a recent appearance on WWE Digital, CM Punk joked about not listening to John Cena’s advice before sharing what he actually learned from one of his biggest rivals.
“I feel like John’s probably given me advice. I’m not the guy that really listens to people, though,” Punk said, before giving it a bit more thought.
“[John told me to] ‘Stick to your guns. Be yourself, stay true to yourself.’”
