Seth Rollins took a showrunner to school over arguing about stakes in pro wrestling.
WWE Superstar Seth Rollins was a guest on Games With Names, where he discussed his critically acclaimed Hell in a Cell match against Cody Rhodes in 2022.
The hosts brought up the segment where the guest and interviewer rate a match based on the stakes involved. Showrunner and co-host Kyler Schelling gave the lowest score, a 4.1, citing the predetermined nature of the business as his reason.
Explaining his take, Kyler said:
“I look at it from the perspective of not separating the kayfabe world from the outside world, so I can’t score the stakes the way others do because it’s crafted and written.”
Seth Rollins fires back at Kyler
Rollins didn’t hold back in his response, calling out Kyler for suggesting that because pro wrestling is scripted, it carries little to no stakes.
“What offends me is the idea that because wrestling is predetermined, there are no stakes,” Seth Rollins said. “There are massive stakes involved. We’re talking about livelihoods. It’s not just me and Cody making money. It’s an entire roster, an entire crew, a business feeding families.
“There are kids who are better fed because this match was successful. Not just wrestlers’ kids, but crew members’ kids too. Everybody made more money because it worked. That’s real stakes. And that applies to all matches at the highest level. There’s a lot riding on making sure this business stays afloat and that everyone gets paid. So yeah, that’s my rant.”
