Harley Cameron gives RJ City his flowers.
AEW Women’s Tag Team Champion Harley Cameron spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard. During the conversation, Cameron spoke about being a multifaceted performer, as she’s an accomplished wrestler, singer, and ventriloquist, among other talents.
Cameron noted that she first drew attention in pro wrestling circles for performing The IInspiration’s theme song. That opportunity allowed her to get more attention, and AEW continues to give her more chances to showcase her talent.
“Now, I have people come up to me and say, ‘Oh, we didn’t know you did this and this.’ I’ve been really lucky,” she explained. “I feel like people are learning more about me, and a big part of that is thanks to the show giving me the opportunity to do all these other things as well.”
Harley Cameron says leaning into comedy brought out her authentic personality
Harley Cameron grew up watching Jack Black movies and says she falls asleep every night watching South Park and Seinfeld. She has always been very comedic and drawn to making people laugh, so injecting that aspect into her wrestling persona made things click even faster.
“When I began my wrestling journey and was trying to figure out who I was as a character, a lot of people reminded me that sometimes the most authentic representation comes from being genuine to yourself. Early on, I was experimenting with different character ideas,” Cameron said.
“I was actually on RJ City’s show, Hey! (EW), which was a very organic sit-down interview with me as an individual. I got to joke around, play guitar, and do a bit of comedy,” she added. “People told me afterward that my personality and the things I do naturally are entertaining. That really encouraged me to explore being more of who I am as a person.”
Harley Cameron on working with RJ City
Cameron says the adage of a wrestler finding success by turning their real-life personality “up to 11” might not work for everyone. However, it worked for her, and she credited RJ’s show for being a great platform to do so.
“I don’t always subscribe to the idea of just ‘being yourself times 100,’ because not everyone wants to portray their genuine self,” Cameron explained. “But I have a quirky, natural personality, and that has worked for me on television.”
RJ City recently announced Hey! (EW) was ending, but Cameron guessed that he would have something else for fans to enjoy in the future.
“He was a big reason I got to showcase a lot of the stuff I do. Honestly, his show is fantastic for so many people. It allows them to show who they are on a broader scale. RJ is excellent at digging out the best in people and uncovering interesting facts. He’s very talented, and I’m sure he’ll have something new cooking up soon. Otherwise, I’ll beat him up if he doesn’t.”
