What are WWE’s current plans for The Original Tribal Chief, Roman Reigns, at WrestleMania 42?
Roman Reigns once again disappeared from WWE programming following Survivor Series. Which saw his team lose the Men’s WarGames match to The Vision. Reigns would have a face-to-face with Cody Rhodes following the match. Where he would inform him that the two of them would never team again.
This was done by design. As it appears WWE might be going with their backup plan for The Tribal Chief next year at WrestleMania 42.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the original plans for a match between Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins are very much up in the air due to Rollins’ injury status.
Rollins has confirmed that he’ll still be sidelined for another three to four months. And while a return could put him back on the road in time for WrestleMania, WWE really can’t rely on that to happen.
Sources have told Meltzer that a match between Reigns and Rollins at WrestleMania is still open. However, it’s far from a sure thing.
The new direction for Roman Reigns at WWE WrestleMania 42?
With Seth’s injury making his return to WWE in time for WrestleMania uncertain, it appears the company might be shifting towards the rubber match between Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes.
It was initially reported that this match was planned for earlier in 2026. However, Meltzer is now stating that another match between Rhodes and Reigns is looking to be the big match on the show.
If this is accurate, it unfortunately gives away the result of next month’s Three Stages of Hell match between Rhodes and Drew McIntyre in Berlin on January 9.
Stay tuned to WrestleZone for more information as it becomes available.
