A former WWE star has officially turned the page on his previous character with a symbolic farewell that marks the start of a new chapter.
Following the expiration of his 90-day non-compete clause, Joe Gacy has introduced his post-WWE identity through a cinematic video that leaves little doubt about his future direction.
The haunting vignette closes a weeks-long countdown while setting the stage for his first match as an independent wrestler.
Joseph Sawyer buries Joe Gacy persona in emotional farewell video
Released by WWE on April 24 alongside the rest of the Wyatt Sicks faction during TKO’s restructuring, Joseph Ruby can no longer use the Joe Gacy name. He has now adopted the ring name Joseph Sawyer, unveiling it in a short film (Via X) titled “Acceptance.”
The video centers on Sawyer holding a conversation with his former self. The latter is represented by the Huskus the Pig Boy mask that defined his time with the Wyatt Sicks. As the exchange unfolds, the mask encourages him to embrace the inevitable.
“It’s okay, Joe… you need to accept it.”
The emotional monologue gradually shifts from uncertainty to gratitude as Sawyer reflects on the career that brought him to this point.
“Thank you for giving me this wonderful, wonderful, wonderful career I’ve had.”
He also acknowledges that the character helped shape the wrestler he became before making peace with moving on.
“You might end here, but I am going to carry on.”
The symbolic climax comes when Sawyer buries the pig mask in a shallow grave before walking away. The video then fades to a final message reading, “JOSEPH SAWYER LIVES,” confirming both the end of the Joe Gacy persona and the conclusion of his non-compete period. He later shared an image on social media carrying the same caption.
Before the finale, Sawyer released a seven-part vignette series documenting his emotional transition from WWE to free agency. His first scheduled match under the new name comes on July 24 at Wrestling REVOLVER’s The Silence of the Lambs event in Nashville. It will stream free on YouTube.
Sawyer has already made surprise appearances for independent promotions. Moreover, he is set to reunite with his former Wyatt Sicks stablemates at WrestleCon from July 31 through August 2. The mask may have been buried, but his next chapter has already answered the bell.
