The feud between Drew McIntyre and Cody Rhodes continued at a series of WWE holiday-themed live events this week, resulting in one’s jingle bells getting rocked. Fortunately, there wasn’t any serious damage.
During Tuesday night’s live event in Detroit, Michigan, McIntyre challenged Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship in a Street Fight. Before the opening bell, McIntyre grabbed a microphone to remind Cody that if he laid a hand on “The Scottish Warrior,” he would be stripped of the title. As such, Cody was forced to stand back as McIntyre then unashamedly addressed the family of Brandi Rhodes, who were seated in the front row.
The presence of Brandi’s mother, in particular, seemed to amuse McIntyre.
“Ladies and gentlemen, Brandi’s mom, the mother of Cody’s children,” McIntyre smugly said (courtesy of fan footage). “I have a question for you. You always watch SmackDown, right? You gotta check out Cody every week, so you watch the show, SmackDown. And I know what you’re thinking when you watch SmackDown. You’re thinking, ‘My God, that tall, handsome Scottish guy makes me real weak in the knees every week.’ I know what you really thinking. You’re thinking ‘I wish my daughter married Drew instead of Cody.’
“Hey, you can’t touch me, man,” McIntyre added as he turned back to Cody. “You can’t do a thing about this, or they’ll strip you of the title. So for the grand finale, I don’t have to do anything. I’m gonna leave Detroit, and I’m gonna win the title in Berlin. Good night, everybody.”
Cody Rhodes Overcomes A Low Blow To Defeat Drew McIntyre
Despite his assertion that he’d leave Detroit without wrestling, McIntyre ultimately returned to the ring and lost his scheduled Street Fight. This came after Cody nailed McIntyre with a Cross Rhodes, then sent him crashing through a table via a top rope splash.
At some point beforehand, McIntyre delivered a low blow to Cody, which “The American Nightmare” managed to overcome and later poke fun at in a post-match promo.
“I don’t know if you heard Drew. He gave me a little low blow and then he told my lovely mother-in-law we couldn’t have a third [child],” Cody said. “Oh no! I think I’m still good to go! (laughs).”
In August 2025, Cody and Brandi welcomed their second daughter, Leilani Ella Runnels, into the world. Their first daughter, named Liberty, was born in 2021.
On January 9, Cody will put his Undisputed WWE Championship on the line against McIntyre once again, this time in a Three Stages of Hell match in Berlin, Germany. Before then, McIntyre and Cody will appear on the January 2 edition of WWE SmackDown, emanating from Buffalo, New York.
