AJ Styles delivered big-time on his promise, but did he manage to beat Gunther on WWE RAW?
This week’s RAW main event featured the first televised singles meeting between AJ Styles and Gunther. Both men put on a clinic, trading technical exchanges that kept the fans on their feet.
Toward the end of the match, Styles trapped Gunther in the Calf Crusher for a third time, leaving The Ring General in excruciating pain. The Austrian powerhouse appeared to tap out, but he did so in a way that prevented the referee from seeing it.
Sensing the submission, Styles released the hold and asked the referee to raise his hand. However, the official argued that he never saw the tap. As the referee was distracted, Gunther delivered a low blow followed by a powerbomb to secure the victory.
Replays highlighted Gunther’s controversial yet brilliant use of ring IQ, leaving AJ Styles and the fans in utter disbelief. While Styles made good on his promise to make Gunther tap out, it was The Ring General who stood tall to close WWE RAW as the winner.
