Tony Khan Reacted to AJ Styles’ Retirement Amid AEW Speculation

Tony Khan has shared his thoughts on AJ Styles retirement match at WWE Royal Rumble 2026.

Speaking on YoJoshMartinez, Tony Khan didn’t hesitate to heap praise on Styles, calling him one of the greatest wrestlers of all time.

“I think that AJ Styles is absolutely a fantastic wrestler. He’s one of my favorites. I think he’s had an amazing career all over the world,” Khan said. “He’s never been in AEW before but he has wrestled in Ring of Honor and in ROH he had some fantastic matches, and also, as a fan, some of my favorite stuff was when AJ Styles was in New Japan Pro Wrestling.”

He mentioned Styles’ match with Minoru Suzuki as one of his favorites.

“He had a great alliance with the Bullet Club at that time. He’s somebody who’s had a great career in so many different companies around the world and certainly I consider him to be one of the all-time greats.” [H/T: Wrestletalk]

Styles officially ended his in-ring career at the Royal Rumble this past Saturday. He passed out to a sleeper hold from Gunther. However, it remains a bit unclear. Styles did not leave his gloves in the ring after the match.

That small detail sparked talk about whether this was truly the end. Some wondered if it was only the end of his WWE chapter. Reports indicated that AJ Styles was a hot backstage topic last week at AEW Dynamite, though no official offer has been made.

Sources believe that New Japan is potentially taking an interest, especially given Styles’ deep history with the company. His current WWE deal is believed to expire sometime in February 2026, which only adds more intrigue to the situation.

For now, AJ Styles and WWE say he’s done, it will be interesting to see what unfolds in the upcoming months.
