“We’ve got a generation of kids yelling ‘Suck It.’” That’s largely thanks to WWE creating DX’s iconic catchphrase.
D-Generation X, better known as D-X, is one of WWE’s most prolific and legendary stables. A mockumentary film takes the idea of the group’s catchphrase creation to some funny lengths, even comparing the day the phrase ‘suck it’ was created to another infamous September 11th.
A mockumentary titled “The Day S*CK IT was Born” was released on YouTube by comedian Shane Hartline. The feature chronicles the fake origin of the group’s “Suck It” catchphrase. The short film takes place inside the WWE creative offices. It presents a hilarious alternative potential history for how the group was founded, including some truly chaotic moments.
Not only does it show the writer’s room coming up with the phrase (and immediately regretting it), but it also features real archive footage of news stories profiling children who got in trouble for saying it at school.

What is ‘The Day Suck It Was Born’ about?
“What happens when 90s wrestling chaos collides with a room full of unhinged writers under pressure? 9.11.97 is a darkly comedic mockumentary short film about the creation of the most infamous DX catchphrase in wrestling history,” reads the short film’s official synopsis. “Shot like a behind-the-scenes documentary, it follows a desperate creative team spiraling into madness to craft two words that would change pop culture forever.”
The group consisted of Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Chyna, X-Pac, Road Dogg, and Billy Gunn. DX is one of WWE’s most legendary stables. The stable made their debut in 1997 and instantly became fan-favorites. Today, most of its members are actively involved in day-to-day operations with WWE. The group was also inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2018.
