Cody Rhodes became emotional as he thanked Rey Mysterio for the life-changing WrestleMania 27 feud.
WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio was the latest guest on Cody Rhodes’ What Do You Wanna Talk About podcast. Rhodes promoted Mysterio’s appearance on social media by recalling his “Disfigured” gimmick, and he brought it up along with their WrestleMania 27 showdown during their conversation.
Cody Rhodes recalled having no direction in WWE after splitting from Randy Orton and Ted DiBiase in Legacy. He noted that things would’ve stayed that way if it weren’t for Mysterio advocating for him to be his opponent at WrestleMania 27. He got teary-eyed as he explained how the masked legend changed his life and thanked him sincerely. It was Rhodes’ first singles match at a WrestleMania.
“You changed my life,” Cody Rhodes began. “I don’t get anywhere, dude. I had nothing coming my way. I lost Teddy and Randy. I wasn’t the one who was supposed to go, and you know what that’s like. It wasn’t a knock on me; I just wasn’t the one who was supposed to go.
“Right, there’s always one that advances, and the other, you have to figure out another route,” Rey Mysterio added.
“And I got to experience things at a different level, and play ball at a higher level, and I would’ve never gotten out of the blocks. I don’t know who that would’ve been,” Cody Rhodes teared up as he said. “I would’ve never had anything.

Speaking further, Cody Rhodes reiterated that his career would not have been the same if Rey Mysterio hadn’t chosen him as his opponent. Mysterio replied, saying he’s satisfied to have possibly been the person who opened the first door for Cody Rhodes in WWE.
“So I’m sure there’s someone in your career who had a moment with you where maybe you felt the same. But for me, it is legitimately a core moment. Nothing happens without me walking into that building, and you being like, ‘You wanna go in?’ The rest was history for me. Of course, there’s a myriad of highs and lows, but I would’ve never had a high, right? So I have to thank you,” Cody Rhodes said.
Rey Mysterio chimed in, saying, “That makes me feel a huge side of satisfaction to be able to be that person that maybe opened up that first door.”
