A WWE legend says Roman Reigns made a big mistake in his latest promo against CM Punk.
Two weeks after CM Punk made a personal dig at Roman Reigns and his father Sika on WWE Raw, “The OTC” fired back with a remark mentioning Punk’s wife, AJ Lee. More notably, Reigns claimed that Punk couldn’t do any of the things he does because “The Second City Saint” is “old.”
According to WWE legend Tommy Dreamer, Reigns’ latter comment might actually be a disservice to his and Punk’s ongoing build to WrestleMania 42, where they will battle over the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
“Promo class 101, when you’re insulting your opponent, the biggest thing you’re never supposed to do, you’re never supposed to call your opponent fat and out of shape, or old. You know why? Because when you get punched in your face and you get dropped, the ‘old’ guy just dropped you,” Dreamer said on Busted Open After Dark. “(Also) if you’re saying somebody is old, and you’re in the main event of WrestleMania, you’re going toe-to-toe and you can’t beat an old guy.
“No one would say that to The Undertaker, no one would say that to Shawn Michaels, Cody’s not going to say that to Randy. No one’s going to say that to Brock, so when you go that route, you’ve got to be careful. However, I loved all of it…Everything (Reigns) said before that was wonderful, in the sense of, ‘I’m faster than you, I’m better looking than you, I’m everything you’re not.'” (H/T to WrestleTalk).
Punk heads into WrestleMania 42 at the age of 47. Meanwhile, Reigns is two months away from his 41st birthday.
