The world of professional wrestling is known by many to be scripted, but a legend recently opened up about how the term “fake” can often act as a trigger for them.
Speaking in a recent interview with Vlad TV (via Wrestling News), Vlad brought up asking Mark Henry about wrestling being fake, and Henry jokingly threatening to beat him up, before calling it “predetermined.”
D-Von Dudley said it really is that serious, and brought up a moment during his ongoing divorce proceedings in which he had to stop himself from reacting negatively when a judge called wrestling fake.
“The guy who was in charge of it goes, ‘You mean the fake stuff?’ And I just went, isn’t he 53, what is this, an old man type of wrestling?” D-Von said. “I’m like, D-Von, don’t you open your mouth. You’re gonna lose everything. Don’t do it. Just let it go. Act like he never said it.”
According to Dudley, the phrase that wrestling is “fake” is a trigger word for most wrestlers, as it not only discredits what they do, but is worth even fighting, to some.
“Now you want to fight,” said Dudley of being told wrestling is fake. “Now it’s worth spending the night in jail. Now it’s worth dropping 10 to 15,000 just to knock him out. Now it’s worth it. You get that all the time from the wrestlers.”
