CM Punk Reveals What Inspired ‘Pipe Bomb 2.0’ Promo on WWE RAW

CM Punk says he’s not the only one feeling a certain way about Pat McAfee’s inclusion in a top WrestleMania 42 storyline.

Punk appeared on the All The Smoke podcast and explained what the catalyst was for his latest “pipe bomb” promo on RAW. The “Pipe Bomb 2.0” saw CM Punk target Pat McAfee, whom he called “Pat MAGAfee.” Punk said being the “promo guy” can be a burden at some times, noting how he’s on a level of his own on the mic.

“What prompted it? It’s kinda hard being me sometimes. I think being known as the microphone guy and the pipebomb guy, I think my good is a lot of other people’s great. So, when I go out there and I’m just good, people look at it as less than. But everything can’t be pipe bomb,” CM Punk explained. “Everything can’t be that high octane, 100 percent, all-out, because then if everything is, nothing is. If every movie you see is the greatest movie of all time, then none of them are.

“What prompted this, was an overall feeling, not from just me or not just the boys, but hair and makeup, production, management, the crew. A lot of the people were feeling disrespected and pissed off,” Punk continued. “So I had a job to do in my mind. I have to go out there and promote my WrestleMania match with Roman, who’s not in the building. It’s not an easy thing to do.”

CM Punk wanted to stick up for the pro wrestling business

Punk said it’s much easier to take fans on a ride with someone to play off of, noting how you can feed off of it. When you’re out there alone, Punk noted, it’s a bit more difficult.

“I’m fortunate that I have done this long enough and I have failed at this long enough that I’m better at this than a lot of people. This is where I thrive,” he said.

Punk says he could fall flat on his face, but the sense of danger brings something out of him. He says he was trying to sell WrestleMania and make things exciting.

“I was out there trying to sell WrestleMania, sell some tickets, make it exciting, make it real. And also, [I wanted to] stick up for the business,” he added.
