WWE Using Brock Lesnar-Style Booking For Jacob Fatu

Jacob Fatu continues to receive strong bookings ahead of WWE Backlash. He is set to challenge Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship on May 9. The rivalry between the two family members has become one of WWE’s biggest storylines.

Their rivalry became more intense after Fatu attacked Reigns with a Tongan Death Grip, pushing the Bloodline family feud to a new level. The feud escalated further this week on RAW. Reigns and Fatu took part in a contract signing for their title match.

During the segment, Reigns mocked and belittled Fatu. That quickly led to a fight between both men. The segment ended with Fatu putting Reigns through a table. WWE has consistently presented Fatu strongly in recent weeks.

Wrestling Observer’s Bryan Alvarez discussed the storyline and booking direction. He compared Fatu’s push to the way WWE once booked Brock Lesnar ahead of WrestleMania 42.

WWE is sending a strong message with Jacob Fatu’s booking

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez shared his thoughts on the feud. He said WWE has focused heavily on making Fatu look dominant, comparing it to the recent Brock Lesnar vs. Oba Femi feud.

“And then they had the Jacob Fatu Roman Reigns contract signing. And, you know, say what you want about WWE, like they’re trying to do a pay-per-view match. There’s a guy that nobody thinks is going to beat Roman Reigns, and so, golly, they have done everything in their power to just put Jacob over.”

He then compared it to a previous WWE storyline involving Brock Lesnar and Oba Femi. “You know what it’s like, actually? It’s like they’re doing this very much like that Brock Lesnar-Oba Femi thing, where they did not 50/50 every week. It wasn’t, ‘This is your week, Oba.’ Probably, ‘This is your week, Brock.’ It was like Oba beat him up every single week, and then he killed him.”

“And on this one, they’re trying the same thing. Jacob gets the best of Roman every single week, gets the best of the MFTs, gets the best of all of these other Samoans and Bloodline members. I don’t think he’s winning the pay-per-view.”

The feud between Reigns and Fatu continues to build ahead of WWE Backlash this weekend.
