All Elite Wrestling (AEW) star MJF didn’t hold back while discussing former rival CM Punk during a recent appearance on Ariel Helwani’s show.
Even so, beneath the sharp shots and pipebomb-style insults, MJF also made it clear he still respects Punk’s ability inside the ring.
The comments come as MJF prepares for another major spotlight moment at Double or Nothing. He clashes with Darby Allin for the AEW World Championship in a “Hair vs. Title” match.
However, Punk’s name once again found its way back into the conversation — much like an old wrestling theme fans can’t stop humming.
MJF praises CM Punk’s wrestling talent while launching personal attack
During the interview, Ariel Helwani asked the AEW star whether he was surprised by how successful Punk has been since returning to WWE.
MJF answered bluntly: “No, I’m not surprised at how good he’s doing. Doesn’t change the fact that he’s a f**king c**t.”
Helwani then asked why the former AEW World Champion still felt that way about Punk. MJF doubled down without missing a beat.
“He just sucks. He’s a bad guy, but he’s an incredible professional wrestler. Not going to take that away,” MJF said. He later added, “He’s a piece of shit, but he’s a great wrestler.”
The rivalry between MJF and Punk became one of AEW’s defining feuds during 2022, culminating in their violent Dog Collar Match.
Plans for a continuation reportedly stalled following Punk’s infamous post-All Out 2022 media scrum. The rivalry never reignited before Punk’s eventual AEW exit after an incident involving Jack Perry.
Interestingly, despite the personal criticism, MJF has consistently praised Punk’s wrestling mind in previous interviews. It’s a classic case of separating the worker from the work. Or, in wrestling terms, giving someone their flowers while still wanting to hit them with a Dynamite Diamond Ring.
With Double or Nothing approaching on May 24 in Queens, MJF now shifts his attention back toward championship gold, while the shadow of his rivalry with Punk still hangs over AEW history.
