CM Punk is reportedly “pushing very hard” for a WWE RAW return amid talks about a move to SmackDown.
F4WOnline‘s Dave Meltzer had previously noted that CM Punk is expected to join the SmackDown roster and potentially feud with Cody Rhodes when he returns from his post-WrestleMania 42 hiatus. He explained that WWE is planning it as a balancing measure since RAW has more star power at the moment.
In a follow-up to that report, Meltzer stated in the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Newsletter that though he is earmarked for SmackDown, CM Punk is “pushing very hard” for his return to take place on the July 6 episode of WWE RAW in the Chicago area. The event will emanate from the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois.
“Even though Punk is earmarked for Smackdown, he was pushing very hard for his return to be on the 7/6 Raw show because it’s in Chicago. His departure was basically to get him ready for moving to Smackdown and eventually a program with Rhodes, but to say there are no issues at all, that wouldn’t be correct. It’s not as bad as some have made it out to be, but it’s not like there aren’t any issues at all,” the report read.
CM Punk has been absent from WWE television since his segment with Cody Rhodes on RAW after WrestleMania 42. There were rumors that he had asked for his release from the promotion, but they were later debunked. He also worked on his physique during his absence and recently showcased an impressive transformation. It will be interesting to see what’s next for the former World Heavyweight Champion when he returns.
