Mason Rook’s WWE NXT debut has already sparked major discussion online. He made his WWE debut by attacking NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo before teaming with Kam Hendrix on WWE NXT.
Last week, Rook and Hendrix defeated Tony D’Angelo and Myles Borne in a tag team match. However, many fans on social media critiqued Rook’s physique, with some mocking him for not having the typical body associated with modern WWE stars. Now, former WWE star Ryback has defended the latest NXT signee.
Ryback supports WWE NXT star Mason Rook after online criticism
Former WWE star Ryback defended Mason Rook in a video posted on Facebook, pushing back against the body-shaming comments surrounding the NXT star. He said, “He’s big, he’s bad. Your body slam your dad. Something tells me this isn’t just a fad. Yo, I’m the big guy.”
“Right back at Mason Rook is in NXT, and there’s a lot of talk, a lot of controversy, a lot of people happy and unhappy that he is on TV and WWE. WWE NXT, I personally am very happy for him, and he has a very unique look. And people with a unique look in pro wrestling tend to do very well over time.”
“You have to remember I’m always in shape. I’ve had one of the best bodies in the history of pro wrestling, drug tested time and time again on this. And coming from someone who did it at the highest level, pro wrestling needs people, needs characters, needs human beings in all different shapes and sizes, and all that ultimately matters is whether you can go in the ring or not and take care of your opponents, you’re able to go out there and put in a full hour.”
“And with said, everyone comes from different backgrounds, countries. People have different exposure to supplements, to the right foods. They have different upbringings with that. And everybody has a different age when they get signed by WWE. Just because somebody comes in one way doesn’t mean that they’re gonna come out that same way.”
“So you have to give things time, you have to be patient. But most importantly, just be decent and kind. Don’t project. Don’t, don’t put your insecurities onto other people out there because there’s no place for that. Happiness is a choice. And maybe Mason Rook some of you of yourself, except for the difference between him and you is that he is actually taking action and going after his dream, pursuing a better life. And that’s the last bite. Feed me more.”
