Gunther recently named a top WWE star currently absent from television as his biggest retirement target.
Over the last year, Gunther earned the nickname “The Career Killer” after retiring several WWE legends. Goldberg retired after losing to him at Saturday Night’s Main Event in July 2025. John Cena later suffered the same fate in December, while AJ Styles lost to Gunther at the Royal Rumble earlier this year.
With speculation growing that Brock Lesnar could become Gunther’s next target at WWE SummerSlam, the former champion discussed several names he would like to retire in a title vs. career match.
Gunther names Sheamus as the wrestler he most wants to retire
During an interview with Main Event Club, Gunther was asked to rank WWE stars he would most like to retire. He name Randy Orton on the third spot. After being asked about Sheamus, Gunther replied, “One.” He was then asked about Brock Lesnar and responded, “Yeah, he’s two.”
Gunther was then asked about Brock Lesnar and responded, “Yeah, he’s two.” He further explained why Sheamus means more to him personally. “So, the thing is, Brock is for publicity. He’s perfect. But Sheamus is a personal matter that I want to send him, that I want to retire him.”

Gunther also ranked Rey Mysterio and CM Punk during the segment. “Yeah. I take him on the four.” He later added about CM Punk, “CM Punk, he’s got to go on five now, right? But I mean, you know, objectively, they would all be good choices.”
Gunther and Sheamus have delivered several critically praised matches over the years in WWE. However, Sheamus is currently sidelined with an injury. Meanwhile, Gunther is set to challenge Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at Clash in Italy.
