Oba Femi becoming the 2026 King of the Ring could change Brock Lesnar’s future in WWE.
Oba Femi defeated Jey Uso in the King of the Ring Tournament final at WWE Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia. With the victory, he has earned a world championship shot at SummerSlam in August.
However, while the future appears bright for The Ruler, his victory could change the future of Brock Lesnar.
Brock Lesnar teased retirement after losing to Oba Femi at WWE WrestleMania 42. That turned out to be a ruse, as the Beast Incarnate returned and redeemed himself by defeating Femi at Clash in Italy last month. With the rivalry deadlocked at 1-1, fans anticipated another showdown between the two heavyweights at SummerSlam, especially due to Lesnar’s roots in the host city of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Oba Femi’s win puts Brock Lesnar’s rumored hometown retirement in doubt
Fans expected Brock Lesnar to appear at WWE Night of Champions and cost Oba Femi the King of the Ring final. However, since Femi claimed the crown with a clean win against Jey Uso, he will now move on to challenge for a world championship at SummerSlam. That likely means he’s not facing Lesnar at the event, putting the Beast Incarnate’s rumored hometown retirement on hold.
Oba Femi hasn’t announced which champion he will face at SummerSlam following his King of the Ring win. He could face either World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns or the winner of the Cody Rhodes vs. Gunther vs. Sami Zayn match later today for the Undisputed WWE Championship. Fans are also speculating that he might trade his title shot for a last showdown with Brock Lesnar.
WWE teased a future rivalry between Oba Femi and Cody Rhodes when they had a tense staredown on last night’s episode of SmackDown. Roman Reigns also previously noted that he’ll keep a close eye on Femi.
WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H had named The Ruler among three other superstars as a future WrestleMania main eventer, making it clear that management has confidence in him. So it will be interesting to see what’s next for Oba Femi in the immediate future, a world title run or one last clash with Brock Lesnar to see if he can slay The Beast for good and solidify himself as the next big thing in the promotion.
