New Update Emerges On Ilja Dragunov Amid WWE Absence

Ilja Dragunov has been away from WWE television for the past several months. The former United States Champion hasn’t appeared on WWE programming for the past few months. Now, a new backstage report has provided an update on his current status.

Ilja Dragunov was last seen on WWE television on the SmackDown before WrestleMania 42. On that show, he competed in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. Since then, Dragunov has remained off WWE programming.

His absence has left many fans wondering when he will return and what WWE may have planned for him next. During a recent Fightful Select Answers Q&A, Sean Ross Sapp responded to a fan question about Dragunov’s whereabouts.

Update on Ilja Dragunov’s WWE status

He shared what he’s been hearing behind the scenes regarding the former champion. According to Sapp, Dragunov has recently been training at Nattie Neidhart and TJ Wilson’s Dungeon. However, Sapp noted that he hasn’t heard much else regarding Dragunov’s status lately.

He also said he hasn’t heard anything about Dragunov dealing with an injury. He pointed out that Dragunov probably wouldn’t be training at the Dungeon if he wasn’t cleared to do so. At the same time, Sapp mentioned that things have been pretty quiet regarding Dragunov.

He also said he hasn’t heard about the former champion being involved in any upcoming WWE creative plans. Dragunov previously held the United States Championship before losing the title to Carmelo Hayes.

Since then, the title picture has changed quite a bit. Trick Williams is now the reigning United States Champion. It will be interesting to see when he finally returns to WWE television and whether he goes after the United States title once again.
