WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long has once again spoken about his difficult relationship with former WWE executive John Laurinaitis, saying he still believes Laurinaitis wanted him out of the company.
Although WWE fans remember their on-screen rivalry that led to a match at WrestleMania 28, Long has always said that the issues between them behind the scenes were very real. Over the years, he has shared several stories about incidents he believes were attempts to hurt his career.
Teddy Long says John Laurinaitis hated him behind the scenes
Speaking recently on TMZ’s Inside The Ring, Long made it clear that his opinion of Laurinaitis hasn’t changed.
When asked if he had seen or spoken to Laurinaitis recently as the former executive has started appearing around wrestling again, Long said he had not.
“No, I haven’t. I haven’t seen him at all. I don’t really have nothing to really say about him, you know. All I can say is though, he was one of the guys that I know, that really hated me and wanted me out of there. I know that. So that’s basically all I can say,” Long said.
Long also questioned why anyone would be upset with him for simply doing the job WWE hired him to do.
“Because the thing about it with me, you know, how can a person be mad at me for doing my job? I looked at that with, you know, I’m doing my job. I’m doing nothing wrong. Vince is happy. You think Vince McMahon would have kept me the face of his TV for nine years if I wasn’t doing my job? So, how do you explain that?” Long said.
Long has shared similar stories in previous interviews. While he didn’t revisit those accusations this time, he repeated his message that despite the success he enjoyed during his nearly decade-long run on WWE TV, he still believes John Laurinaitis never wanted him there.
