As AEW looks to crown a new pair of Owen Hart Foundation Cup winners, former WWE legend Mick Foley appeared on the promotion’s broadcast to reflect on Hart’s legacy.
AEW’s Forbidden Door will feature the finals of the Cup, and in a new promo for it, both Foley and Jeff Jarrett appeared to talk about Hart. Foley reflected on the pair’s friendship when they first met in their careers.
“Owen Hart was one of my best friends. We hit it off the moment I met him backstage at a tri-state wrestling show in 1991,” said Foley. “We started traveling, we had a lot of things in common. We were both legendarily frugal on the road, and there’s even a somewhat publicized contest between me and Owen to see who could go farther on a $20 bill.”
Foley also talked about the bond the pair shared, and how special it was that AEW has put together the Cup as a way to honor him.
“Our bond was not made because of what we shared in the ring, it was what we shared as friends and fathers, and husbands,” Foley said. “As great as he was in the ring, he was even better outside of it. One of the best men I ever met in my life.
“What an amazing way to honor Owen’s memory, to have the Owen Hart Foundation Cup…I know how much it means to the AEW wrestlers, to etch their names in history alongside the name of Owen Hart, it doesn’t get much better than that.
