CM Punk’s legendary pipe bomb promo is remembered as one of the greatest moments in WWE history. However, many fans forget that earlier on the same episode of WWE RAW, Punk also had a memorable in-ring segment with Shawn Michaels alongside The New Nexus.
Punk appeared alongside The Nexus during the confrontation. He mocked Michaels for returning after retiring from WWE. Punk also reminded everyone he was leaving soon anyway.
The promo segment saw CM Punk mentioned Shawn’s WrestleMania 26 loss to The Undertaker. He also called himself the future of WWE instead. Punk even said fans kept celebrating the past instead.
CM Punk and Shawn Michaels exchanged memorable words before the Pipe Bomb
Michaels stayed calm and fired back saying he was better than him. Punk admitted Michaels was better back then, though. The exchange got even more personal after that. Michaels then explained why they were completely different.
He admitted they shared a few similarities, though. He said, “I got news for you. You and I are not alike. Certainly, we’ve got similarities. We don’t smoke, we don’t drink, we don’t do drugs.” Punk didn’t let him finish without another jab. “Anymore.”
Before saying anything else, Michaels hit David Otunga suddenly. Sweet Chin Music ended the confrontation in dramatic fashion. Later that same night, everything changed for Punk. He interrupted the John Cena versus R-Truth main event.
Then he delivered the unforgettable Pipe Bomb promo. That promo became one of WWE’s most iconic moments ever.
