One of WWE’s most surprising betrayals now has an explanation. A week after Lyra Valkyria stunned fans by turning on Bayley, the former Women’s Intercontinental Champion finally broke her silence on RAW and revealed what drove her to attack her longtime partner.

Lyra Valkyria explains why she turned on Bayley
The fallout began on the June 22 episode of RAW in London. Lyra Valkyria and Bayley failed in their bid to capture the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship from Paige and Brie Bella, with Valkyria taking the deciding pinfall.
After the match, Bayley attempted to comfort her partner. Instead, Valkyria snapped, attacking Bayley multiple times before planting her with the Nightwing. The assault left fans searching for answers.
Those answers arrived on the June 29 edition of RAW in an official vignette.
Lyra admitted she wasn’t proud of letting her anger get the better of her, but she refused to apologize for what happened.
Instead, she argued that she had spent more than a year sacrificing her own success while trying to pull Bayley back to the top.
Valkyria pointed to her accomplishments as the inaugural Women’s Intercontinental Champion and insisted she no longer wanted to waste her career carrying someone else.
According to Lyra, teaming with Bayley created a “gap” between where she was and where she believed she should be in WWE. She said she finally “closed that gap” at Night of Champions by taking Bayley out.
The former champion also dismissed criticism from the WWE Universe, maintaining that she had done nothing wrong and suggesting Bayley was responsible for the situation.
With her motives finally out in the open, the partnership appears beyond repair. Bayley has yet to respond, but after Lyra’s emotional confession, this rivalry looks set to move from the tag team division to a deeply personal one-on-one battle.
