WWE Hall of Famer Booker T has finally addressed his recent absence from NXT. The veteran commentator missed two straight episodes before confirming he will return to the commentary desk this week.
Booker T missed the June 16 and June 23 episodes of NXT. Corey Graves replaced him on June 16, while Wade Barrett filled in the following week. His absence led to several rumors among fans.
Speaking on his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T explained why he stepped away from NXT television.
Booker T says family matters caused his WWE NXT absence
“Let’s get the elephant out of the room. And I’m going to say, man, I ain’t going to sit here and try to sugarcoat or anything like that. But do you have, you know, issues, just like everybody else, you know, and a huge family. I’m the youngest of eight.”
Booker then explained that family had to come first.
“I’m the youngest of eight, and when something happens, you know, in your family, family comes first. Everything stop. For me, I always said, being young to the family is my responsibility. Make sure I step up and be there, at all times. And for me, I had just been dealing with some family stuff, but I had to take a step back and deal with it, and then, you know, get back to work because I can’t, I can’t, I cannot deal with things without working at the same time, you know what I mean?”
Booker also assured fans there were no health issues behind his absence.
“It’s one of the things where I gotta just keep my mind going, but no, that’s all it’s been, man. I feel good. There’s nothing wrong with me. I’m fine. My health is great. I mean, you can look at me right now.”
“I mean, I’ve got a 30-day, you know, push your program, as well. 30 days, wake up, 30 days. And I wanna see where I look back at the end of this 30, as well. So now, man, I feel good, but I’m gonna get back to work tomorrow. I’ll be back at the desk with my man, Vic Joseph, and we’re gonna, you know, go out there and do it like it’s supposed to be done have some fun?”
He also addressed the rumors that surfaced during his absence. He laughed off the speculation that he had been replaced or fired.
