Austin Theory has reflected on the early days of his WWE main roster run, revealing there was one specific moment that made him realize Vince McMahon had bigger plans for him.
Looking back, Theory admitted the signs were there. However, he didn’t fully connect the dots until after a major championship victory.
Speaking on ImPAULsive with Logan Paul, Theory opened up about his journey from NXT to the main roster. He explained how one post-match celebration changed his perspective.
Austin Theory reveals the moment Vince McMahon’s push became clear
Logan Paul asked Theory about arriving in WWE and “being thrown into the deep end at such a young age.”
Theory explained that he initially felt like he was simply finding his footing in NXT before his personality began to shine during his time with The Way.
“I felt like that’s kind of the tip of it for me in NXT,” Theory said. “When I got to the main roster, I didn’t even kind of realize like Vince was like pushing me and behind me.”
The realization finally came after he captured the United States Championship and became the youngest U.S. Champion in WWE history.
“I remember when I won the US title… Vince wanted all the heels to come out, hold me up in the ring, and then as I left the ring, he came out at the end on the stage and held my arm,” Theory recalled. “And I think in that moment, I was like, ‘Whoa, like something’s going on here.'”
It was a fitting “Theory” that became reality. Sometimes the biggest push isn’t delivered with a promo — it’s delivered with a raised hand.
Before that moment, Theory said he was focused on developing his character, particularly after embracing a more humorous side while competing alongside The Way in NXT. Once he reached the main roster, however, McMahon quickly became part of his on-screen presentation.
Theory would go on to become one of WWE’s most prominently featured young stars during that period. Looking back, he now recognizes that his United States Championship celebration was the clearest indication that McMahon saw him as a cornerstone of WWE’s future, even if it took that memorable moment for the message to truly sink in.
