Sami Zayn‘s shocking win has reportedly become a matter of concern within WWE.
Zayn pulled off a miraculous victory in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, defeating Cody Rhodes and Gunther to capture the Undisputed WWE Championship in the main event of Night of Champions. The finish saw Zayn counter Rhodes’ Cross Rhodes attempt into a roll-up pin for the win.
An elated Zayn then cut an emotional post-match promo, saying that after going more than a decade without receiving the recognition he deserved, and after everyone had written him off, he now stood before the WWE Universe as the new WWE Champion.
However, it wasn’t just the WWE Universe that was stunned by Sami Zayn’s triumph. According to WrestleVotes Radio, via Fightful Select, Zayn’s title win at Night of Champions was kept under tight wraps backstage.

“Sami Zayn becoming the new Undisputed WWE Champion at the Night of Champions PLE caught many within WWE off guard, including those in the marketing department,” the report noted.
“As of July 1st, WrestleVotes on Fightful Select learned that the marketing department has yet to receive instructions to update the 2026 SummerSlam key art concepts to reflect Zayn being the champion. A source shared that Zayn’s title win was handled on a strict “need to know” basis across multiple departments.
“One employee described the situation as “worrisome” because the lack of advance notice for a major creative change like that could make their jobs more difficult if that level of secrecy becomes the norm.”
Zayn is set to defend the Undisputed WWE Championship next week on RAW. His opponent for the show was reportedly revealed during the SmackDown taping earlier this week.
