Confusion Emerges Over Next Week’s WWE US Title Match on SmackDown

The July 3 episode of WWE SmackDown caused some confusion over next week’s match between Trick Williams and Carmelo Hayes for the US title. Hayes came to the ring looking for another shot at the title, but Williams’ buddy, rapper Lil Yachty, had something else to say.

The segment brought together two rivals with a long history. Soon after Trick Williams arrived with Lil Yachty, Carmelo Hayes confronted the champion. He wasted no time making his point and said he wanted another shot at the United States Championship.

Hayes said that the US title is for “workhorses” who are “hungry,” and Williams looked like he had “too much to eat.”

He then challenged Williams to prove himself by defending the title against someone who knows him better than almost anyone. Hayes also questioned Williams’ claims of being the best, saying that every time they face each other, the result is never certain.

Since Hayes clearly challenged for the championship, it looked like WWE was setting up a title match. But things changed when Yachty grabbed the microphone.

Speaking for Trick Williams, Lil Yachty mocked Hayes before asking the crowd if he deserved another title shot. The fans cheered in support, but Yachty ignored them. Instead, he announced that Williams would face Hayes next week on SmackDown in a non-title match.

Yachty said Hayes already had his chance before and couldn’t get the job done. He added that Williams was happy to face Hayes again to stay sharp, but the championship would not be at stake. He also told Carmelo Hayes that after next week’s match, he would have no excuses left if he lost again.

That created a strange situation. Hayes had asked for a US title match, but Williams’ side accepted the challenge while taking the title out of the equation.

The US Champion finally spoke and reminded Hayes that they had known each other for years. He then slapped Hayes across the face and told him to stay out of grown folks’ business.

As Williams and Yachty tried to leave, Hayes jumped over the top rope with a huge tope con giro, taking out Williams at ringside. Yachty looked ready to fight back, but Williams held him back, and the two walked away, leaving Hayes standing tall.
