WWE‘s Finn Balor says CM Punk is actually a nice guy behind the scenes.
Inaugural WWE Universal Champion Finn Balor was the latest guest on the INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet podcast. During the conversation, he discussed his two matches against CM Punk earlier this year, especially the one on the January 19 episode of RAW in Belfast, Ireland. He noted that it was one of the proudest and most emotional moments of his career because it took place in his home country, with his family in the front row.
Finn Balor says CM Punk is humble and polite
Balor recalled not having many interactions with CM Punk before the latter returned to the promotion in 2023. He admitted to hearing “horror stories” about Punk being difficult to work with, but said his experience was the exact opposite. He found the Straight Edge Superstar to be humble, polite, and eager to collaborate. Balor also believes that the match took place because Punk personally requested it.
“Punk is someone I’d never really interacted with much. I’d actually only met him one time in my life at Samoa Joe’s wedding. This is back in, like, 2002/2003, maybe. Then he had left WWE when I signed with NXT. So we never really had any interactions,” Balor began.
“I’ll go on the record saying I’d heard horror stories about Punk being this a**hole, being difficult to deal with, being a big-headed guy that no one wants to work with. When he came back to WWE, it could not have been the opposite. I met this guy who was humble, polite, wanted to work with people, and I’m pretty sure he went to the office, and he said he wanted this match. I don’t think it came from the office. I think it came from Punk,” Balor said.
Both CM Punk and Finn Balor will appear on tonight’s episode of SmackDown. Punk will make his first appearance as the new Undisputed WWE Champion, while Balor will take on Tama Tonga.
