Eric Bischoff Shares His Honest Thoughts About the WWE and Netflix Deal

Eric Bischoff believes Netflix’s deal with WWE is a great next step in the evolution of the streaming platform.

Earlier this week, there were many surprising announcements from WWE and its parent company, TKO. Starting from The Rock joining the board of members of TKO to WWE making a deal with Netflix. Each piece of news was a huge step forward in improving the company.

WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff spoke on the latest episode of his 83 Weeks Podcast about the company’s Netflix announcement. Bischoff believes the deal will benefit both WWE and Netflix.

“It wasn’t that long ago that we were reading headlines about Netflix being in financial peril,” Eric Bischoff said. “I think this is a great way for Netflix to take a next step in its evolution. Netflix needs to grow their audience too. I’ve said it before, if you’re not growing in the television industry, then you are dying.

“This is a big opportunity for Netflix to inherit a worldwide, loyal audience for a product that up until this point has only been available on terrestrial or cable television. Now that audience is going to move to Netflix.” [H/T Wrestling Inc.]

Netflix will start streaming RAW beginning January 2025. The WWE Network will also come to an end at the end of 2024 internationally as all the content, including the PLEs, will be moving to Netflix.

Eric Bischoff on professional wrestling’s success in the cable television industry

Bischoff also mentioned that professional wrestling was a huge success even before it aired on cable Television. So, Bischoff feels the Netflix move is more of the same.

“Professional wrestling before cable television was probably the most watched form of entertainment in the United States,” Bischoff explained. “Professional Wrestling, maintaining its record as living on the leading edge of [entertainment].”
