Alex Kane Is Facing A ‘Make Or Break’ Situation At MLW Never Say Never

Alex Kane is ready to prove the doubters wrong this weekend at MLW Never Say Never against Alex Hammerstone.

Major League Wrestling‘s Alex Kane recently sat down with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about how important a show like MLW Never Say Never is for him and the company, Kane said it’s extremely important and considers his match against Hammerstone as a make-or-break moment for him.

“This is something that can definitely — I feel like we’re already on the map, but the impact hasn’t been big enough,” Alex Kane said. “I know with the Reelz deal like we’ve reached a certain demographic that nobody else is really touching. I think with it being live and that demographic, being able to reach even deeper into that demographic will be extremely beneficial for us.

“Then, for me, I feel like every, every big moment that I’ve had in MLW has been a test, and this is like the final. It’s not the final exam, but it’s the final exam, kind of. Can I perform under this kind of pressure or not? This is like a make or break moment, in my opinion.

“So I definitely think this is very, very important. For now, if I do end up beating [Alex] Hammerstone, that’ll be kind of like the tone-setting for me. Then, like, whatever happens in the future, if I’m not with MLW, like, wrestling on like one of the other two big brands. There’s a lot in the backpack for me right now.”

When asked if he knows if MLW Never Say Never is a one-shot deal or if more live events are planned, Kane said he hadn’t heard anything about that yet but believes if the event does great, there will be opportunities to do more.

(Not Exactly An) Upset Alert

Alex Kane enters Never Say Never as the winner of Battle Riot V and he’s a former National Openweight Champion. Kane has momentum on his side but beating Alex Hammerstone won’t be an easy task. Hammerstone has been MLW World Heavyweight Champion for 640 days, but Kane doesn’t think winning would be a total shock.

“I don’t know if I would call it necessarily an upset. I feel like when people say upset, they think, ‘This guy has no chance, but he pulls it out,” Alex Kane said. “So I don’t think it’s one of those deals.

“It’ll definitely be shocking, but I don’t think it’s an upset at all. Just like looking at the response that we’ve gotten from this match,” he added. “Actually, from this journey leading up to this match, I don’t think it’s necessarily going to be an upset. If Hammerstone ended up beating me, I think that would be way worse than anything for anybody who watches MLW.”

MLW Never Say Never airs live on FITE on Saturday, July 8 at 8 pm EST. Watch our full interview with Alex Kane below:
