WWE Women’s World Champion Naomi announces her pregnancy. Mercedes Moné will defend two titles this weekend. WWE Hall of Famer Torrie Wilson chats with WrestleZone, and more!
Naomi Announces Pregnancy, Vacates Women’s Title
Last week, Naomi was slated to defend her WWE Women’s World Championship against IYO SKY on WWE Raw. Mere hours before the broadcast, however, WWE announced that Naomi wasn’t medically cleared to compete.
SKY instead battled Roxanne Perez in singles competition. Meanwhile, Naomi left the WWE Universe in a cloud of mystery…until the following Monday. On this week’s episode of Raw, Naomi and husband Jimmy Uso confirmed that they were expecting a baby, with Naomi being seven weeks pregnant. As a result, Naomi relinquished the WWE Women’s World Championship, though not without giving a departing message to her colleagues in the RAW locker room.
“All the women back there in the locker room, y’all should be thanking one person. They should be thanking Big Jim, because without him, y’all know you wouldn’t have a chance to take this title off of me,” she said. “I was about to walk all over y’all like a dog all year long. I was going to put you heffas in the ground … I’m gonna leave my title here and give you heffas nine months and some change to do whatever you want with my title. Even if I have to come back breastfeeding with my baby in my arms, I’m coming back to pick up where I left off. And whoever has that title when I do, I strongly advise you to proceed with caution!”

The future of the Women’s World Championship
As of this writing, the WWE Women’s World Championship remains vacated, with the direction in which WWE will crown a new champion unclear. Stephanie Vaquer was initially slated to challenge Naomi for the title at WWE Clash in Paris on August 31.
Naomi claimed the championship by successfully cashing in her Money in the Bank briefcase at WWE Evolution.

Mercedes Moné Defending Two Titles
This weekend, Mercedes Moné is tasked with defending not one, but two titles, though with the added opportunity to gain a third.
Firstly, Moné will head to the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre in London, England, for a Winner Takes All match against UK indie star Emersyn Jayne. Moné and Jayne will battle on night one of RevPro’s 13th Anniversary show, August 22, after Jayne threw out a challenge to “The CEO.”
“Mercedes, I’m the best in the UK. If people want a good match, they want to work me,” Jayne said. “If people want to watch a good match, they watch my matches. I hear you’re a bit of a magpie. You like shiny things. Well, I’ve got something shiny that you might like, and I’m a bit of a gambler. So what do you say? Mercedes, do you want to try and add another belt to your collection, another flag to your collection? The Discovery Wrestling Scottish Women’s Championship.
“So, what do you say? We’re both in London next week. Belt for belt. Champion versus champion. Mercedes, you best believe that I’ll be derailing the Moné Train because the belts will become at home with me, Emersyn Jayne.”
We don't like putting out challenges… until we have an answer.

RevPro will have a big Mercedes Moné match this weekend
RevPro later confirmed the title-for-title match for their 13th Anniversary show, with Moné putting her RevPro Undisputed British Women’s Championship on the line. Jayne will simultaneously raise her Discovery Wrestling Scottish Women’s Championship. Whoever wins will walk out of RevPro with both titles. In Moné’s case, it will signal the ninth title in her current belt collection, which also includes the AEW TBS Championship.
That title will be on the line at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, which emanates from London’s O2 Arena on August 24. The upcoming challengers for the TBS Championship are: Alex Windsor, CMLL’s Persephone, and STARDOM’s Bozilla.
AEW Women’s Champion Toni Storm will defend her respective title at Forbidden Door as well, in her case against Women’s Casino Gauntlet winner, Athena.

NXT Heatwave Preview
Following Forbidden Door, many wrestling fans will pivot their attention to WWE NXT Heatwave, which takes place from the Lowell Memorial Auditorium in Lowell, Massachusetts, on August 24. Four of the six confirmed bouts include competitors from the WWE women’s division.
Firstly, Blake Monroe and Jordynne Grace look to settle their differences once and for all in a singles match. Monroe initially came into WWE as an apparent ally to Grace, with the two even picking up a victory together at NXT Great American Bash. The next night, however, Monroe turned on Grace, and in doing so, cost her an NXT Women’s Championship match against Jacy Jayne. Since then, Grace has sought out revenge.
Jacy Jayne herself will also be in action at NXT Heatwave as she defends her TNA Knockouts Championship in a triple threat also involving Ash By Elegance and Masha Slamovich. Jayne unseated Slamovich in a Winner Takes All match at TNA Slammiversary and has since retained the Knockouts Title against both Slamovich and Elegance, albeit by disqualification. Now, the three will meet all at once.

Elsewhere on the card, WWE will determine the number one contender to Jayne’s NXT Women’s Championship as Lola Vice, Kelani Jordan, and Jaida Parker square off in another triple threat. Finally, WWE LFG season one winner Tyra Mae Steele will make her premium live event debut alongside Tavion Heights when the two take on Chelsea Green and NXT North American Champion Ethan Page in a mixed tag match.
