#3.) Amateur wrestling success

We mentioned earlier that Lashley took part in elite Army wrestling freestyle competitions and practised extensively in his stint.  However, his relationship with amateur wrestling goes all the way back to seventh grade. He pursued it in school and continued to pursue it in college, where he won multiple college-level wrestling competitions.

After his service in the US Army, he continued training, with the objective of getting into the 2004 Olympic team. Unfortunately, he was witness to a bank robbery incident, where he ducked for cover to prevent being shot, resulting in a ruptured knee. He was injured once again when training and this ended his amateur career.

Luckily, he met Kurt Angle, who he idolized and Angle told Gerald Brisco to get him a WWE tryout. The rest, as they say, is history.
