Kofi Kingston is legitimately having one of the best babyface WWE Championship reigns in a few years. He’s been presented as a very strong, fighting champion and nobody would have expected that he would hold the title for nearly half a year. He’s currently in a very difficult, personal rivalry against Randy Orton and there was already an inconclusive finish at SummerSlam 2019.
Kingston needs the win to cement his legacy as WWE Champion. This is the most important title defense in his reign so far and it’ll be perfect for the storyline if Kingston manages to finally overcome the demons of his past.
