A Decade of Dominance: The Best WWE WrestleMania Main Events Of The 2010s

wrestlemania 36

WWE WrestleMania is usually the height of the year for many wrestling fans. The show’s unrivaled splendor always makes it a special event, which is why WrestleMania main events are often some of the most memorable bouts of all time. When executed properly, they can be excellent conclusions to hot feuds.

Given that 2020 is the beginning of a new decade, it’s a good time to reflect on the past decade’s WrestleMania main events. Rather than ranking them all, I’ve narrowed it down to the top five. Of course it’s very subjective; others may rank the matches differently or include those that I’ve left off my rankings. My personal enjoyment of the matches heavily influenced this list and the main objective was to kick-start a wider discussion surrounding these matches.

It’s only been a year since the historic main event that saw Becky Lynch defeat Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair to win the RAW and SmackDown Women’s Championships. This marked the first time women competed in the main event of WrestleMania. In a few years, we’ll have a better idea of how to fully evaluate this bout. Despite the inherent recency bias, this match has to be considered one of the best WrestleMania main events of the 2010s.

First, this match marked the culmination of the Women’s Revolution. The importance of this movement can’t be overstated. But there’s so much more to this main event than its novelty. In the months leading up to the contest, Lynch became one of WWE’s top stars. But in a match with Rousey, a former UFC Champion, and Flair, one of the best women’s wrestlers in the world, Lynch was the underdog, both in the ring and from a booking perspective. As with Daniel Bryan’s victory at WrestleMania 30, WWE rode the hot hand and rewarded a talent who earned their place at the top of the card, which is why this match will go down in history.
