Hall of Fame Discussion

Hall Of Fame Discussion
By Kevin Kelly

I love the Hall of Fame… just love it! I can spend hours making arguments for and against anyone you want to talk about. Shawn Michaels is the biggest no-brainer invite ever. Some complained that it was too soon? What, you have to be retired five years? This ain’t baseball. It’s wrestling. Only in wrestling can you be inducted into the Hall of Fame on Saturday and in theory compete at WrestleMania on Sunday.

With ‘Mania in Atlanta this year, it was natural to talk about inducting some NWA/WCW names… Mr. Wrestling II, The Freebirds, Ron Simmons, all logical names. But if you want to honor WCW wrestlers at this year’s Hall of Fame, how can you not include Diamond Dallas Page in the discussion?

Mark Madden just fell out of his chair. DDP’s run in the WWE was a disaster, wasn’t it? Love him or hate him, Page proved that age and pedigree wouldn’t stand in his way. Yes he rubbed people in the business the wrong way but he worked his ass off to make the transition from manager to wrestler and was pretty damn popular.

Brian Pillman and Kevin Sullivan should go in, no? “I respect you, Bookerman” is still one of the greatest soundbytes in history and both Pillman and Sullivan’s contributions to the wrestling business are legendary. Look on YouTube for some of Sullivan’s Slaughterhouse promos from WCW with Cactus Jack and Buzz Sawyer. Holy Crap! Great stuff!
