EXCLUSIVE: Still The Man; Booking Advice; Thanks J.R.

BOOKING ADVICE

I spoke to a WWE superstar about the tepid presence of RVD and Jeff Hardy in TNA, and he said, “They both have laid-back personalities, and that’s how they’re being booked. That doesn’t translate well. Any booker who believes in just letting somebody be himself is either lazy or doesn’t know what to do. You’ve got to be larger than life.”

Amen. That statement corroborates what I said the minute Hardy set foot in TNA: It won’t work. He needs the machine. Hardy is a star in WWE but nobody in TNA. It’s been proven.

RVD is additionally hampered by having some of the worst theme music in history. “Rob Van Dam! The whole F’in show!” Horrible, shouted lyrics. A tuneless din to go with. If you’re going to suck, at least display a sense of humor. That’s good advice for Van Dam himself. A world champion? I don’t think so.

At some point, a promotion should shell out for licensing and use pop music. Kerry Von Erich: “Tom Sawyer.” Freebirds: “Free Bird.” JYD: “Another One Bites the Dust.”  WWE has produced some memorable original themes, to be sure, but TNA going in a different, more mainstream direction might be worth the investment (certainly more so than most TNA investments).
