Stars in Progress: Dolph Ziggler Rockets Up, Cesaro Falls Down, “Big Red” is Chewing Gum, Bella Twins Story is AWFUL

STEP DOWN: Cesaro

CesaroIf Vince McMahon doesn’t believe in you, you’re not going anywhere. And we knew this. WE KNEW THIS a year ago, when the first report came out that said Vince McMahon wasn’t high on Cesaro. This shouldn’t be news.

The problem is, he’s not wrong. I love Cesaro as much as I loved him – if not more – when I followed his career on the independents. But he’s not a great promo. He can wrestle a 4-star match with one arm and a peg leg, but that’s not enough when you work for WWE. He needed Paul Heyman, and when they pulled that rug out from under him, I feared it was the beginning of the end. Since then, he’s been in and out of mid-card title matches, random one-off tag team matches, and an afterthought on so many shows it’s almost painful.

I want Cesaro to succeed in WWE, because I think he’s one of the best athletes they have on the roster. But there is a disconnect there, like Vince said in his interview with Steve Austin Monday night. Unfortunately, if WWE doesn’t give him the mic and let him practice, I don’t know if we’re going to see the growth he needs to become a major star.
