Isenberg Reacts: WWE SummerSlam “Best in the World, New Champions Change The Landscape”

Randy Orton vs. Sheamus

wwe summerslamSummerSlam kicked it off just as I thought it would, with an old rivalry and an always entertaining match. I enjoyed how Sheamus started off early with the promo and started the offense on The Viper. Much to the surprise of everyone, Sheamus picks up the win. There is this thought, and justified, that the Money in the Bank briefcase holder will lose more than he wins because he can always fall back on the briefcase. I do not want Sheamus to be like this, especially since he has the potential to be one of the best original heels that WWE has. He does not want to be cheered and his in-ring technique. He is simple, yet effective.

As for Randy Orton, he can wrestle with anybody. His face character right now is really good and he is helping the heels get over. That is what he needs to do right now. Take a page out of Cena’s book and let some other guys rise to the top. You will always be Randy Orton. Very solid opener with a surprising victory for Sheamus. There really were no big faults in the match, but nothing to make it “special.”

New Day Rocks, New Day Rocks

The Fatal Four Way for the WWE Tag Team Championships exceeded my expectations, by far. I knew the match had potential to be fun, but it was excellent. Even with the lack of depth in storylines and character development (Los Matadores and Lucha Dragons), all four teams delivered. I really enjoyed the unique offense from Kalisto and Sin Cara, with a sprinkle of Fernando and Diego mixed in. I give them credit for making an ordinary match extraordinary.

Prime Time Players are really good, but they are not on the level right now as The New Day. They may be just as good in the ring, but Big E and Kofi Kingston are just downright entertaining. You can tell WWE unleashed them a little bit, letting them do what THEY wanted to get over. With a mouthpiece on the outside like Xavier Woods, this is a fitting trio of guys that work and work to get over. They have succeeded and are, by far, the most popular tag team. Excellent match and great build to New Day returning to top form and becoming WWE Tag Team Champions.
