Why A Feud With Bray Wyatt Is Exactly What Finn Balor Needs

Finn Balor’s match with Elias Sampson on RAW ended with the popular superstar having a guitar broken over his head. While that was undoubtedly a jaw-dropping moment, one man managed to steal our attention away from Balor’s graphic injury, and that man’s name is Bray Wyatt.

As the Eater of Worlds gave us one of his memorable speeches, he told Balor how he was happy to see him suffering. And in many ways, it was the official beginning to a rivalry that WWE has been trying to get off the ground since the Superstar Shakeup.

Now that it’s finally happening, this can only mean good things for both superstars. While taking on the first ever Universal Champion could do wonders for Wyatt’s career, Balor may be the one who will benefit from this feud the most.

Finn’s First High Profile Feud Since His Return

Finn Balor made an unforgettable impact during his days in NXT, and his success there had fans campaigning for him to be drafted to the main WWE roster. And that’s exactly what happened during last year’s WWE Draft when he showed up on RAW. Within days of being drafted, Balor would defeat Roman Reigns to become the Number 1 contender for the inaugural Universal Championship. And weeks later, at SummerSlam 2016, he would defeat Seth Rollins to become the first ever Universal Champion. But an injury he sustained in the latter match resulted in the new champion immediately having to relinquish the gold.

While Balor has undoubtedly excelled in the ring since his comeback, proving that the injury didn’t affect his in-ring skills, his momentum just hasn’t been the same. And it’s all down to the way he’s being booked. While his rivalry with Elias Sampson has been entertaining, it obviously wasn’t deemed worthy enough for WWE to give them a slot on PPV to wrestle it out once and for all.

We get that they’re trying to drag out the Bray Wyatt rivalry for SummerSlam and Finn needs to take on someone in the meantime. But it could have been done a lot more effectively, with Balor and his opponent actually wrestling on PPV, instead of being sidelined to repetitive RAW segments.

But now that he’s facing Wyatt, we should finally see Balor get a high profile match on the SummerSlam card. And as SummerSlam will mark the anniversary of historic title win, I couldn’t think of a better way for him to make his return to a PPV event.

Return Of The Demon King

I think by now most of us know that Finn Balor has a dark side, which manifests itself in the form of the Demon King. And this is a side of him we don’t see that often. With his enthralling spider-like entrance and gothic face-paint, Balor’s Demon King persona has been compared to the greatest WWE gimmicks of all time, like the Undertaker and Kane. Much like these legendary characters, the persona is like something out of a bygone WWE era, and that’s exactly what makes it so successful.

The only other real superstar with a gimmick like Balor’s is Bray Wyatt, and because of this reason alone, they would undoubtedly have a great rivalry. Could you imagine the promos? Or the mind games one would play on the other?

While Balor is easily one of the greatest on the current roster, there is something extra special about seeing him as the Demon King. And there’s no doubt that pairing him with Bray Wyatt will do great things for both superstars. Furthermore, as Wyatt has been consistently referring to himself as a “god”, Balor is a logical choice to take him down, because if there’s anything that has a chance of stopping the self-proclaimed god, it’s the Demon King.
